I visited Sabah and Sarawak for two weeks in 1986. The highlight was staying in a longhouse with a Rungus family in North East Sabah.

Another longhouse using traditional materials, the one where I stayed. The bathroom and laundry facilities were perfect.

The sleeping arrangements are colourful Pagan ritual includes burning chicken heads, to ensure that the Gods send the rain. Little girl that followed me everywhere; until I focused my Minolta on her, then she'd follow me again.

The longest staircase in the world (I suspect) leading to almost the top of Mount Kinabalu The jungle contains giant ferns and other fascinating plants So that we could reach the summit by dawn, we stayed overnight in this lodge. Almost to the top. To reach the summit, you need help from a rope.
