Palace Resorts. Cancun, Mexico, June 2004. A highlight was a visit to Chichen Itza. This vast area in the forest was completely covered in vegetation until the 20th century, when mounds were cleared to reveal beautiful pyramid temples, an observatory and other buildings. These give evidence to an advanced Mayan society existing in the Yucatan Pensinsula in the 9th century.
